Flexible Denture FAQ
Common questions and troubleshooting regarding invisible denture base resin printing and maintenance.
Q1: Why is the surface not glossy enough when using the Invisible denture base?
Potential Reason: After printing and cleaning, there may be tiny gaps on the model surface, which can result in a hazy appearance.
Solution: Polish the surface:
- Physical polishing — Use a grinding machine together with polishing sandpaper and polishing paste to polish the surface.
- Chemical polishing — Apply a layer of glazing agent or the resin material itself on the surface and then cure it to fill the micro gaps and achieve a glossy effect. After curing, if there are any insufficiently cured areas on the surface, wipe them with a clean tissue.
Q2: Why does the denture not bond to the model?
Potential Reason: If external force is applied to the model before post-curing or when it becomes soft after heat curing, it may cause deformation.
Solution: After heating the model in hot water, immediately place it onto the dental model and press the uneven areas until it cools down.
Q3: Why is the color not right?
Potential Reason: The resin was not thoroughly shaken before printing, resulting in pigment sedimentation.
Solution: Thoroughly shake the resin before printing until no color separation is visible when pouring it out; this step is particularly important if the resin has been stored for an extended period.
- If severe resin stratification occurs (e.g., the appearance of a transparent layer), place the resin bottle in an ultrasonic cleaner and sonicate it for at least 20 minutes. Afterward, allow the resin to rest for at least one hour to dissipate any bubbles generated by the process.
Q4: Why did the denture’s color change after the patient has used them for a period of time?
- Reason 1: Dietary Pigments or Oral Environmental Factors.
Solution 1: After daily meals, dentures should be promptly removed for cleaning, and regular soaking with denture cleanser is recommended. - Reason 2: Using iodine tincture for disinfection / cleaning.
Solution 2: Using iodine tincture for disinfection is not advisable due to its strong staining ability. For daily maintenance, use denture-specific cleaners or mild dishwashing liquid for cleaning. - Reason 3: Tobacco products, such as cigarettes and cigars, can lead to stubborn yellow-brown to dark brown resin-like deposits due to nicotine and tar, which have a strong adhesive quality.
Solution 3: Clean promptly after using tobacco and regularly soak dentures in denture cleanser for cleaning.
Q5: Flexible Denture Fracture
- Potential Reason: PMMA resin teeth were bonded to the flexible denture, yet the resin teeth were not pre-swollen in denture base water (MMA monomer).
Solution: The bond strength between PMMA resin teeth and resin materials is inherently weak. Therefore, PMMA resin teeth must be pre-immersed and swelled in 45°C (around 113°F) denture base liquid (MMA monomer) for 10-15 minutes before being taken out for bonding to the denture base. - Potential Reason: Squeezing manipulation was applied to the denture.
Solution: Squeezing is strictly prohibited, as it severely compromises the product’s service life and introduces a high risk of fracture.
Daily Use & Storage Recommendations
| SCENARIO | OPERATING STEPS | KEY NOTES | PROHIBITED ACTIONS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Post-Meal Cleaning | 1. Remove the denture gently with fingers. 2. Rinse off residues with warm/cold water. 3. Gently brush the surface/inner side with a soft-bristled toothbrush and neutral toothpaste. 4. Clean natural teeth as usual. 5. Bite gently to seat and wear the denture back. |
– Remove gently and brush lightly to avoid deformation & scratching. – Squeezing and pinching are strictly prohibited. |
Use a hard-bristled toothbrush and scrub vigorously. |
| Nightly Deep Cleaning | 1. Remove the denture before going to bed. 2. Soak in denture cleanser tablets with warm water for 10-15 minutes. 3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water before storing or wearing it temporarily. |
Do not wear it overnight to allow the oral mucosa to rest. | Soak in hot / boiling water. |
| Daily Storage | When not in use, place in clean water / denture cleansing solution and cover the container (mandatory). | Keep it moist to prevent drying, cracking and deformation. | Dry storage (exposed to air / on tissue / on the table). |
